Uses of Dictionary






I deeply thought of the uses of dictionary. I was certain that it doesn't give us the meaning of words solely yet it has other uses.
I asked Google this question and here are its answers?

We use the dictionary to be familiar with
1.     The definition of words.
2.     The spelling.
3.     The pronunciation.
4.     The breakdowns of the syllables in words
5.     The origins of words
6.     The different tenses that a word can have.
7.       Some pictures like maps, animals, plants,,, so on.

And others more.

Greeting Expressions





I fed up from saying 'How are you?' over and over. I searched about other ways of greetings and expressions other than 'How are you?'


I found the expressions in the FluentU website as follows.



1. Hey, Hey man, or Hi

2. How's it going? Or How are you doing?

3. What's up?, What’s new?, or what's going on?

4. How's everything? How are things? Or how's life?

5. How's your day? Or How's your day going?

6. Good to see you or Nice to see you

7. Long time no see or it's been a while

 I guess Fluency MC has the solution to that in the following rap song.  



IDIOMS



Idioms are so interesting and it is good to include them in our speech.

I have some of them with their meaning. They are taken from Learn Idioms Application.

 1.     Cat got your tongue means is there a reason why you are not speaking.


2.     On the fence means not able to decide something; neutral.

3.     People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones means you shouldn't criticize others if you are just as they are.

4.     Take with a grain of salt means to not believe completely, to have some doubt.

5.     Open a can of worms means to cause trouble, to upset matters.

6.     Long in the tooth means old, aged.
